The Sharpening Stone was released in 1998, with many tunes inspired by the group's pilgrimage the previous year to Kirkmount, Nova Scotia. Though the little village is no longer inhabited, the family's exploration uncovered artifacts of a former time, including their Great-Grampa's sharpening stone, inspiration for the title track of the album.
